Mary Lee started looking for ways to supplement her income by taking part in criminal activities like prostitution, stealing, and bad check writing. She has not yet spent a single day behind bars. To help Mary Lee become better, the judge utilized reprimands, money, a suspended sentence, and probation. Both Mary Lee's criminal behavior and her failure to effectively support herself and her children while receiving food stamps, welfare benefits, and part-time minimum-wage employment have persisted. Making matters worse, the social safety net that had supported Mary Lee and her children was due to expire in less than a year. If her husband hadn't divorced her, Mary Lee would have been living a happy life with fewer chances of engaging in illegal activities. Since all her children depend on her for survival, sending Mary Lee would risk the existence and well being of the children since children require effective and active parental guidance in order to develop completely. The welfare system that has been assisting Mary Lee and her children would stop doing so within the next 24 hours, making it difficult for her children to survive without her assistance. Therefore, Mary Lee shouldn't be imprisoned.
