For the reservoir at the top of the figure:
a) Determine the hydrostatic force and location of the center of pressure on the
chamfer (diagonal face) at the left end if it is 15 feet wide (the dimension into
and out of the screen/page), and determine the wall can safely support the force
if its maximum load is 3500 pounds per square foot.
b) Determine whether a hollow concrete block of 5' X 6' X 10' with a total
weight of 9500 pounds will float in the reservoir and, if so, how much of the
block will remain above the water surface. (Consider the likely orientation of
the block in the water.)
