Question 3 (Question 3 will be discussed during the lecture)

A rectangular channel with bed width (b) of 5 and Manning's roughness (n) of 0.015) flows on a

slope of 1 in 100. If the uniform flow depth of this channel is 1m and the water depth at the vena-

contractor (just after the gate) is 0.3m.

1. Decide slope type

2. Sketch the flow profile variation along the channel and tabulate flow depth at every

changing location.

3.

Calculate properties of hydraulics jump/s

4. Calculate and tabulate Es and F at each flow changing location.

5. Plot, depth, Es and F variation along the channel (Not to Scale)

6. Calculate length of two gradually varying flow profiles
