Strange and Secret Ways Animals Perceive World: This text was quite interesting. It explored an area which we generally don’t know much about. For me, it allowed me to look at some of my own experiences with animals. I have always wondered how they perceive the world around them; do they understand our celebrations? Do they understand our work? One of my childhood experiences with a dog was triggered after reading this text. I remember how a dog responded to my sadness by putting his head on my shoulder as to say that ‘I get you, everything will be fine'. The example of whale singing in a similar pattern provides an interesting read as to whether animals’ thoughts can be identified?(Kolbert 1) This text also reinforced my personal beliefs of our planet being a place where every being has an equal right to live, just because we are yet to understand the animals’ language and their patterns doesn’t mean that we have the right to be cruel towards them. This text raises couple of important questions for me, first, whether we as human beings ignored the needs of other beings? And the second question is, whether understanding animals’ language ,patterns,and thought process can help us unlock secrets which could lead to a better world? This text has given me certain new ideas to understand animal behavior in a better way, such as with the help of controlled experimentation where we develop certain patterns and test them for reliability and validity. Another idea is to not look at random voices from animals in an isolated context, rather, try to connect those voices with actions and situations to develop a better understanding of their thoughts.
