The combustion of nCHa(a).in = 200 kmol · h1 of methane takes place at atmospheric-isobaric conditions (P = 1 atm) in a continuous reactor, with air, using a 200% fractional excess of oxygen,according to:

C H_{4}(g)+2 O_{2}(g) \rightarrow C O_{2}(g)+2 H_{2} O(g)

The inlet gases are supplied at T=50°C, and leave the reactor at T=400°C, according to the following values:

O Calculate the oxygen and nitrogen molar flows at the inlet and outlet streams.

(ii) Calculate the heat exchanged in the process.

(iii) Provide the minimum fractional conversion of methane needed for the process to be exothermic and explain the result.[5 marks]
