Question

The equation of a circle is given by x² + y² =². It should further be noted that a

circle with radius 1m is known, by definition, to have an area A = π [m²]. Using the

equation for a circle and the known area of a unit radius circle, determine the value of π

through the mid-point rule, trapezium rule and the Simpson's rules numerical

integration approaches.

Providing evidence of your approach in a spreadsheet or word document, vary the

number of strips n to be n = 6, 12, 18 and 24, 48, 96, and 192.

Comment on the accuracy of your results.

Again, providing evidence of your approach in a spreadsheet or word document, what

number-sided polygon would be required to obtain the same level of accuracy (i.e.,

accurate number of decimal places) of as when n = 192 using the polygon

approach (see Week 1 of the module)?
