The truss ABCD, shown in Figure Q1, has pinned supports at A and D. All bar members ofthe truss have elastic modulus E = 200 GPa and cross-sectional area A

= (1+b) · 10“ m?. The length of the truss is L = (1+a) m and the height h = (1+b) m, as shown in Figure Q1. Thetruss is subjected to points loads P = 1000 kN at nodes B and C, as shown in Figure Q1. 1) Using hand calculations with or without the aid of appropriate software for scientific calculations, such as Excel or MATLAB, calculate displacements at nodes B and C and internal forces of all bar members. 2) Using SAP2000, calculate displacements at nodes B and C and internal forces of all bar members. Compare your findings with the results of part 1. Show SAP2000 images of the undeformed geometry of your model with node and element numbers, the applied loading,the deformed geometry and the internal forces diagrams.
