Question

The US Centers for Disease Control recommends that hand sanitizer should be 80.9 volume percent ethanol. The UArizona hired you as an intern to procure ethanol and mix it with

water in order to make hand sanitizer for everyone on campus. You were not able to find pure ethanol but you were able to purchase a Polish vodka that is 91.6 volume ethanol and the rest water. You decide to be extra safe and have your product be 3.8 percent higher than the standard. Because it was such a good deal, you bought a tanker car that can hold 25241 gallons of vodka and it was filled to 64.5 of its capacity. Your boss, Ahmed, has asked you to determine: a) How much water you need to mix in to make hand sanitizer that meets the standard, in gallons?
