Question

8 An algal metabolite, 2-Methylisoborneol (MIB), is a common taste- and odor-causing compound in surface waters. Adsorption on activated carbon is one treatment option. A series of batch adsorption equilibrium

tests were performed using powdered activated carbon (PAC) as the sorbent. It was of interest to measure the adsorbability over a wide range of MIB concentrations because MIB production varies in surface waters, and the concentration needed after treatment may vary depending on the intensity of the taste and odor problem. The following data were obtained where Co is the initial MIB concentration, Ce is the equilibrium MIB concentration, and Do is the PAC dosage. Discuss the goodness of fit of the Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption models to these data and determine the corresponding constants for each model.
