Your report must critically evaluate it.Imagine you have been asked by an employer to determine whether the innovation should be adopted or not. Description : Type in a very brief description of the innovation that you plan to use for your report.You can update this entry if you change your mind.If you have not found a topic yet, just type "Still looking", and update the entry once you have one.I will monitor your entries and will try to spot topics that might be unsuitable.I have set the deadline as 31st October to encourage you to find a topic and to make an early start on the report.

Requirement : You are to write a report on a Civil Engineering related innovation. The innovation can be a device, a method or a material. It must be a new or recent innovation, and therefore not already widely implemented. The report shall not exceed 2000 words but should aim to be at least 1800 words.You are encouraged to write about an innovative idea of your own. If this is the case, it must be clearly indicated. Show that it is truly original by comparing it to anything similar that is already in the literature. You must explain its advantages and disadvantages.If you do not have an original idea, you can find an interesting innovation in the literature to write about instead. In this case you are still expected to add some original content, which must be clearly indicated. This original content could be a proposed improvement, a wider application, or an approach to encourage uptake. It must be a specific and useful contribution, and be clearly identified as your own input.

Mark Allocation:

Components : (i) A succinct title that is aligned with the content (5%). (ii) An Introduction that briefly explains the innovation and its need or benefits (10%). (iii) The main body of the text should describe the innovation in greater detail,including its advantages and limitations/disadvantages/ weakness, and a comparison with any competing or related innovations (20%). (iv) Relevance and quality of Figures. Each figure should have a caption and should be described in the text. The description in the text should not simply copy the caption (10%). (v) Discuss your original ideas/improvements. It should demonstrate a deep understanding of the innovation (15%).

(vi) The Conclusion should summarize the main points and findings. What is the main message that you want to tell the reader (10%). (vii) Quality and use of references (include up to date references not older than 5 years). Referencing should be used whenever data, images, or opinions that belong to another person are used (10%). (viii) Standard of English. Pay attention to spelling and tense; do not write in the 1st person, and avoid contractions such as"isn't", "don't" etc(5%). (ix) Concise writing style. Good readability can be achieved by avoiding long complex sentences, and ensuring that the meaning is un ambiguous (10%).

(x) Overall presentation. Use Justified text,appropriate section headings, and a precise layout (5%).

Up to 10% will be deducted if the word count is exceeded.
