IE 466 Materials Handling and Facilities Layout Project 3 The ABC Manufacturing Company designed 9 new buildings (symbolized as A, B, C, D, E, F, G & H. Each building will be the shop for one type of operation only. The process sequence and areas is given in the Table below. The maximum load for the material handling is 100 Kg. The problem is to determine the optimum allocation of the 9 operations in the proposed new layout. The following assumptions are given: 1. Each building is suitable for any operation allocation 2. Methods of production control specify the sequence of operations and indicate that they are not to be changed. 3. Product mix remains stable (No. of products of each variety is fixed) 4. The prime measure of effectiveness of the layout is the sum of the products of Quantity multiplied by the weight of each part multiplied by the distance traveled. (b) Develop another rough layout by fixing the allocating Operation "g". (c) Develop a final block diagram based on the results in requirements (a) and (b). (d) Compare your results with the one generated from Project 2 (Travel Chart Technique) Note: layout.xla Facility Layout This add-in accepts as data: a list of departments, physical size of departments, part flows between departments and the size of a proposed plant. The program uses the CRAFT procedure in an attempt to find the layout of departments that minimizes the distance over which parts must flow.
