Question

1.) A refrigerator using R-134a in an off-ideal vapor refrigeration cycle is being used to

maintain a refrigerated space at -30°C with upper and lower pressure limits of 1.2 MPa and

60 kPa, respectively. To cool the refrigerant at the condenser heat is exchanged with water.

The refrigerant enters the condenser at 0.045 kg/s, 1.2 MPa, and 65°C while the water

enters at 0.25 kg/s & 18°C and exits at 26°C (assume compressed liquid water). At the

compressor, refrigerant enters at 60 kPa and -34°C and gains heat unintentionally at a rate

of 450 watts from the surroundings. Determine,

a) the enthalpy of refrigerant (kJ/kg) at the condenser exit,

b) the work input required at the compressor (kW), and

c) the cooling load provided by this refrigerator (kW).
