Question

1. Consider two parallel-plate capacitors wired in series with one another. Each capacitor is made of two thin, square sheets of metal. For capacitor C₁, the sheets have a side length of 0.75 cm and are separated by a distance of 0.5 mm. For capacitor C2, the sheets have a side length of 1.5 cm and are separated by a distance of 0.75 mm. (a) (Target V3) Determine the capacitance of each capacitor if capacitor C₂ is filled with paper. (b) (Target V4) Determine the equivalent capacitance of the system if capacitor C2 is partially filled with paper. In this case, the paper fills the full thickness between the two plates, but only extends 0.25 cm into the capacitor.
