(1) Instructions for the final project OUTLINE (10% - Graded out of 45 marks): BEFORE YOU SUBMIT THE FINAL PROJECT, you need to provide an outline to get it approved

by me. * This outline will include: preliminary ideas for social policy report & plans for the explainer video. * Basically, this is your opportunity to let me know about your plans for the final social policy report (which is due towards the end of the term) so that you can receive feedback (to check if you are on the right-track) * average length of this submission should be about 2-2.5 pages (excluding the list of references for Step 2 below), double-spaced * will be evaluated out of 45 marks (see below for details) Project outline (10%) grading criteria: Step 1 (10 Marks): Describe your selected topic and identify your research question(s) 4 Marks – Sociological importance of the research topic (application of the sociological imagination is the key to higher grade in this section) 3 Marks – Relevance of the selected topic to eliminating/reducing/alleviating social inequality facing our community (real-life importance) 3 Marks – Quality of the research question(s) O Step 2 (12 Marks): Describe your Proposed Topic on Social Inequality * 5 marks – Brief Description of your proposed strategy (e.g.,recommendation for new initiatives, programs, resources, services, policies)to reduce/alleviate the social inequality within your community Your strategy must directly be relevant to your selected topic. * 5 marks – Application of class materials (e.g., life course approach,cumulative inequality theory, intersectionality etc) in supporting your discussion Make sure that you try your best to make connection to what was covered in the required readings for this course * 2 marks – Identify your selection from the two types of policy reports(or briefs) & explain why you made that decision:an advocacy report/brief argues in favour of a particular course of action (aim to persuade)an objective report/brief gives balanced information for the policymaker to make up his or her mind (neutral version) Step 3 (13 Marks): Plans for literature review (Identifying list of references that will be used for the literature review) * 10 Marks – List of references provide a reference list with a minimum of 5-6 peer-reviewed academic sources that you will use for your literature review (please note that this is only a “minimum requirement")for each article you listed, provide a brief description of what the article is about (2-3 sentences per each article)the purpose of this is for me to check whether it is a relevant article for your proposed topic and research question(s) 3 Marks – Following proper citation format (ASA or APA) Step 5 (5 Marks): Check the overall organization & application 2.5 marks – Organization (e.g., formatting, clarity of the writing)2.5 marks – Application of the course materials (e.g., good use of methodological terms learned in class) Step 4 (5 Marks): Plans for the explainer video 5 marks – Brief description & justification of selected presentation style for your explainer video (e.g., lecture-style vs. interactive style) Referencing: All submissions will require the use of a proper academic referencing style (onlyuse ASA or APA).
