Effective Presentation Skills
MGMT 0142 | Assignment 2
Assignment 2: Introductory Presentation (35%)
Purpose
Presentation skills describe your ability to effectively communicate ideas to the audience. Giving a well thought out,
vocally, and visually appealing presentation to your colleagues, business stakeholders, and customers is a valuable skill in
your career toolbox.
This assignment will prepare you to successfully deliver prepared spoken messages to specific audiences and for specific
purposes. You will apply effective speaking techniques, build your confidence, and manage anxiety. When giving your
presentation, you will also practice using your voice and body language in a manner that engages your audience. You are
encouraged to use visuals to support key messages in your presentation.
How to Proceed
1. Review your notes on giving effective presentations.
2. Read through the scenario provided.
Scenario
You are a member of a volunteer board of Student Life, a non-profit organization at Extended Education. The
organization has received an anonymous donation of $100,000. The Executive Director has identified the
following options to use the money:

>
to open a computer lab;
> to open a daycare;
>
to open a sports club;
>
to open a leisure centre; or
>
to open a [insert your own idea].
Previously, you have identified one of the options above and gave your arguments for selecting this option to other
members. At the next board meeting, you will give an informal presentation to your group about the selection
you've made. You will provide your research findings as to what risks and benefits of implementing your idea are
and what steps are needed to complete it.
3. Develop a 5 minute, informal presentation to support the implementation of your idea for utilizing the donation.
4. Your goal is to persuade your audience to move forward with your idea.
