Click on "Homework: Read Brooks, "The Child in the Basement.") (B) Choose one of the points he makes and explain why it surprises/interests you or why you agree/disagree with it. Note: Utilitarian Mind-Set (Brooks's article, page 2, paragraph 6): Utilitarianism is an ethical philosophy. It states that the happiness of the greatest number of people in the society is considered the greatest good. According to this philosophy, an action is morally right if its consequences lead to happiness (the absence of pain); the action is wrong if it ends in unhappiness (pain).
