An experiment consists of three identical metallic cylinders in thermal contact,physically connected end-to-end as shown in the following figure.

The temperature of the cylinder on the left is held at 637 K by some heating mechanism, and the temperature of the cylinder on the right is fixed at 301 K by some cooling mechanism. Assuming that the cylinders are otherwise perfectly insulated, what is the temperature half way along the middle cylinder? What will happen to the temperature if further insulation is added?
