Think about what aspects of the writer should be emphasised/which works/question of style/possible comparisons Discussion of a forthcoming literature-related public event. This can be a book reading, conference, debate, talkshow, convention, exhibition, etc. (Week 7) Think about: what is this event's contribution to literary culture/how to promote it to the reader Profile of a current literary prize (Week 9). Think about: what is the prize's significance/what are eligibility rules/previous winners/ All 4 blog entries must be on the EN1223 blog on Blackboard before the end of Week 9 (5pm Fri 22 March). Marks will be awarded based on the extent to which the entries chart the development of an informed approach to criticism and reviewing. Assessment part 2 Written essay You will write a 2000-word essay on the following question "How has literary criticism changed over time in relation to the work of ONE writer on the module." Your essay should address EITHER Dickens's Hard Times OR Shakespeare's Othello OR the poetry of John Keats The submission deadline is 5pm Tues 30 April via the Turnitin link on the EN1223 Blackboard page. As with all essays you should: O Develop an argument, from an introduction to a conclusion O Respond directly to the areas you are asked to probe O Write objectively, being careful about phrasing: aim to develop a clear and concise academic style of writing. O Support your argument with quotations and wider research from scholarly O sources Make use of relevant lecture/seminar discussions 10
