Assignment #4: Summary-Analysis on Multimodal Work Write a two to three page analysis essay about a multi-media work – one you find thought provoking or particularly interesting. You can analyze a web video, commercial, or print advertisement. However, the work must have persuasive value. Think of it this way: the work should be trying to sell you something, whether that something is a product, an idea, or even an emotion. Happenstance works, like viral YouTube videos, are not appropriate for this assignment, and all works are subject to approval. All works must be appropriate for an academic assignment. Just remember that you must identify an aspect of the work. Here are just a few questions to consider: how is the work organized; does the work rely upon a traditional trope, or does it break from the genre; does the work rely upon emotional appeals, logical appeals, or clichés; who is the intended audience; does the work manipulate insecurities; what is the production value? Like the first two assignments, you will need to provide a summary of the work in the introduction; thesis will come at the end of summary. The rest of the paper will analyze the work, following the guidelines established for the first two papers. A works cited is necessary for this assignment, so keep track of where you found the work.
