ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS Collect Data And Creat a power point about Socratic seminar using images 7-8 PPT Slides As a review from Academic Inquiry, remember what Mills (2011) told us about data collection: "brainstorm about the kind of intuitive, naturally occurring data that you find in your classroom or school, such as test scores, attendance records, portfolios, and anecdotal records...in the early stages [of the action research] think about what you already have easy access to and then be prepared to supplement it with interviews, surveys, questinnaires, video and audio recordings, maps, photos, and observations" (p. 63). To this list I would add daily work, exit tickets, quizzes, etc. Use any data that you are already collecting or would be collecting for the work that is being completed related to instruction. Your work this week focuses on organizing the data so it is easy to analyze and code. Your tasks for this assignment is two-pronged: 1) demonstrating the data collection using a series of photographs, a short video, a PowerPoint, or any other tool that can effectively show how you are collecting data for the action research; 2) writing about the data collection in the AR template. The way that you present your data collection should include how the data is providing evidence for each of the action research questions. Since you must have two data sources for each question, be clear about what those data sources are and how you are collecting the data for analysis. Your data collection presentation should be in a format that can be shared with peers. Remember that a model of this assignment is included in the lecture for this module and also included below. After you have demonstrated your data collection, write about the data sources and the assessments you are using in the AR template. You must demonstrate actual data, not blank documents! These sections are in bright green in the template. The way that you present your data collection should include how the data is providing evidence for each of the action research questions. Since you must have two data sources for each question, be clear about what those data sources are and how you are collecting the data for analysis. Each week we had a in depth discussion where question pose such as what did you learned from the video to how can we make it better. The second week was more videodisplays. Third week was a teacher demonstration. And fourth week it was student demonstrations. Please incorporate this into the power point./n BEFORE YOU TURN IN YOUR FINAL ACTION RESEARCH PROJECT, you will remove all of the questions within each section of the template, “Select All" and convert all of the text into black font. Remove any comments. Your final project should be your best professional work. For APA 7TH Edition, students' manuscripts do not have to include running heads. Proposed Title Theodore Ward Submitted to Dr. Victoria Seeger In partial fulfillment Of the course requirements for 61-699: Capstone Seminar Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction Date Proposed Title Introduction Provide a general description of the purpose of the action research. Explain the context in which the proposal for the action research plan was written. Why are you interested in examining this topic for your action research project? What led you to decide to research this topic? Setting Describe the setting where you will conduct the action research. Include information about grade level, type of classroom, school district, number of students, demographic data, and gender. Describe the actual place the action research will take place. Participant(s) Describe the student or students you will be working with for your action research project. Explain what literacy and content area learning strategies you have used for the student or group of students you will be working with (or strategies you know others have used). List and explain by providing detailed examples of what the student(s) has been exposed to in the past. What has worked for the student(s)? What has not worked for the student(s)? Include any assessment data you have access to. Be specific enough that the reader can visualize this student or the group of students. Review of the Literature Begin writing the literature review (background information contributing to your topic) for your project using 3-5 professional journals or texts. The literature review provides the reader with the background theory, research, and practices related to your topic. Action Research Questions Insert the questions you have written here. Remember, these can/could be revised before you begin working with the student(s). For Question 1: 1. 2. For Question 2: 1. 2. Action Research Questions Data Sources It is advisable to have at least two data sources for each action research question, and three if you plan to publish or present your work formally. It is not uncommon to be able to use a data source for both questions. Determine what you might use for baseline data, often called pre and post assessment information, but remember that this doesn't necessarily mean a "test." You may use a table to display your data sources, if you wish. Describe what you will use for assessment. You may use data that your school collects at the end of an academic year to inform what you are doing now. You may use student work that the students have completed thus far in the academic year. You might be using a survey with your students. You might use a traditional pre- and post- assessment. How will you know if what you have implemented is working with your student(s)? Implementation For the implementation section of the action research, you previously wrote two paragraphs summarizing the strategy implementation and the resources you planned to use while implementing. Now, you will add to this section: • How has implementation actually played out? Many of you will still be . implementing at this point. In that case, you will continue to revisit this section and revise it accordingly. Revise your original paragraphs to reflect what occurred. What has occurred each week of implementation? Each week we had a in depth discussion where question pose such as what did you learned from the video to how can we make it better. The second week was more video displays. Third week was a teacher demonstration. And fourth week it was student demonstrations. What "threats" occurred that you had to troubleshoot for? No threats but I was more so worried about student burnout from the videos and the different discussion we had. That was always in the back of my mind are they engage are they really enjoying this. Revise all of your writing in this section to past tense. Going forward, all of your writing will be in past tense. Time Frame Determine the time frame and procedure you will use to collect data; then collect your baseline information. For example, your first set of data responses may serve as your baseline. If the timeline table you created is detailed enough, you can insert that table here along with a short introduction. Data Analysis Discuss what data was collected and what you used for each data source. Determine how you will discuss the analysis. You might discuss by student, by data source, by research question. Changes Made Write about any changes you made as the research was conducted. Did you have to change the way you were assessing or the time frames? Did you have to add students or change students? You may not have anything for this section. If so, leave it out of your paper. Results and Findings What did you find out from the action research? Consider discussing by action research question, but also considering an overall analysis of the results. Implications for Teaching and Learning What did you learn about your teaching as a result of the action research? What did you learn about the student(s) that you studied? What will you do next? What changes will you make in your teaching? Further Questions If you were going to conduct another action research project based on the current findings, what would you want to find out next?
