Building a Recommender System

Platform:

For this assignment we will support development either on turing or using the IntelliJ IDE. You

can submit programs that you have built in either environment. (Since Java is supposed to be

"write once, run anywhere," you could technically submit a program that you have built in any

environment. However, we would highly recommend that you test your code under one of the

environments the TAs will use for testing.)

Although IntelliJ has a learning curve, learning a Java IDE is undeniably worthwhile for

developing more complex software and for job-hunting purposes. In this assignment, it will also

save you some trouble with large files.

Goal:

In this assignment we will write two programs. Hw3 will import data from two files and

preprocess it for Hw4. Hw4 will ask the user for a movie number and display the 20 movies in

the list that are most similar to it. It will measure similarity by using the Pearson r coefficient

among same reviewers.
