CWR 4202L (Hydraulics Lab) LAB REPORT GRADING SHEET Please include this sheet as the top cover sheet to your submitted lab report. Experiment TA: Total Points Earned (out of 10): (0.2 pts) Cover page (1.8 pts) Report Formatting Does the formatting of the report follow the Report Formatting Guide? Make sure to do the following: ✓ Font: Times New Roman, size 12 (except table and figure labels, which should be size 10 ✓ All margins should be set to one inch (1"), and any tables and/or figures should not fall outside of these margins. 'Justify' your text alignment (1 pts) Introduction and Background Does the Introduction provide a clear statement of the objectives of the experiment? Does it provide all of the background information that is needed to understand the remainder of the lab report? State your objective(s) and your hypothesis. (2 pts) Experimental Apparatus and Procedures Does the Experimental Section provide sufficient information on the apparatus and experimental procedures in your own words? As a guideline, the information should be detailed enough so that an engineering student from another school could understand and duplicate the experiment. (3 pts) Results and Analysis (including figure and table quality) Does this section present the results of the experiments in tabular and/or graphical form? Are the results sufficiently described? Are Figures and Tables numbered in sequence in the order that they are discussed in the text? Does this section properly answer to the questions in the lab handout? Other requirements include a brief narrative discussion of each table and graph. Discussion should focus on the assumptions, most important features and trends reported. Do the experimental data follow expected trends? If not, are possible reasons for the observations presented? (2 pts) Conclusions and Recommendations Does this section summarize all important results and interpretations in light of the objectives for the experiment? Can new hypotheses be developed based on the results? Are recommendations made for further study or improvements in the experiment? Be sure to provide recommendations beyond simple, practical considerations (e.g. better instrumentation, more time, etc.)/n REPORT GUIDELINES GENERAL REPORT & FORMATTING INSTRUCTIONS 1. Include the Lab Grading Sheet as the top page. 2. A cover page must be included and formatted per the sample cover page above and should include your actual signature. Script-style fonts are not acceptable as a signature. 3. Font: Times New Roman, size 12 (except table and figure labels, which should be size 10) 4. All margins should be 1" and any tables and/or figures should not fall outside of these margins. 5. As illustrated in the sample above, reports should be well organized such that information can be located and deciphered quickly and efficiently, and use organizational techniques such as: a. Headings and/or subheadings b. Boldface and/or italics c. Spacing and/or indenting d. Bullets and/or numbering 6. All Tables and Figures included to present data must be clear and easy to read, consecutively numbered, and include a unique and descriptive label (aligned in the middle). 7. All pages after the cover page must include page numbers in the footer (formatted consistently, whether they are center, left, or right) 8. IMPORTANT: to avoid any technological formatting/viewing issues, Canvas submissions will be restricted to PDF files only. If a report is uploaded in any other format other than PDF and exhibits formatting issues, points will be deducted accordingly. As an engineer preparing a technical report for a client, one should present a report that looks professional and conveys clear, concise information. Grammar and effective presentation of results are keys to a professional report. In the context of this course, it will weigh heavily in each report grade.
