Date: Name: LG1200: Assessment-reflective essay This assessment follows on from the introduction to CVs in Week 6 (see materials on Blackboard) and the PowerPoint relating to ELSIE projects. Our focus is on your existing skills and plans, and how these could relate to an ELSIE project, or other employability project, you might wish to undertake in your second year. This assignment does not commit you to a particular second-year project: it is an opportunity to reflect on 'where you are now' and highlight some possible next steps (at University and in terms of your career). You can still complete this assignment even if you do not have a strong sense of what you would like to do after university. Whilst this is a reflective essay, you should refer to published works wherever possible (a short bibliography containing some useful sources appears on page three). In terms of the reflective outcomes of this assignment, the purpose is to encourage you to: 0 Consider the skills you already have, and which skills you need to or can improve as a result of working on an employability project; Consider some possible employability projects; and, Plan ahead in terms of your career (including your academic career). You should reflect on LANGUAGE skills and how these may relate to your plans throughout this piece. In terms of the writing of this assignment, the purpose is to encourage you to: • Attend to the specific demands of the question; • Express yourself in an academic fashion; and, 0 Present your work in an acceptable, standard format, paying attention to the appropriate use of language, and a good and clear style of writing. Task title: In what ways could undertaking an employability project improve my prospects after graduation? You should: • Identify workplace-relevant skills and how these could be developed through your project; • Provide clear reasons why these skills may be desirable to employers; and, • Consider how you can tailor the employability project to developing those skills. Add anything else you believe is relevant to make your work distinctive. In your discussion, remember to provide comment on LANGUAGE (READING and WRITING) skills. The materials you have been given on LG1200 may supply some lines of inquiry (including the Semester 1 materials). You can also undertake online assessments of your skills and abilities to generate additional materials through reflection (e.g., using the Careers service website). Approach this assignment thoughtfully. Pay attention to the structure of your work. Ensure that you write precisely, and in detail, paying attention to good written English. If you have too much to say and find the word limit restrictive, focus on particular elements that you regard as important, edit your work carefully, and justify the decisions you make on what to exclude from your discussion.
