Question
DC-DC power electronic
Project Title: converter for an electric
vehicle drive.
AIM OF PROJECT
The design and control of a dc-dc power electronic converter for an electric vehicle drive.
The converter will be required to control power flow from battery pack to electric motor and
to control power flow in the reverse direction due to regenerative braking of the motor.
2 Summary of work to be undertaken for satisfactory completion: (This will form the project brief to
students and should list the main milestones that need to be achieved. Please attach an additional sheet if
further information is available. If industrially based include company name and contact details).
1.
Research current and emerging battery and electric motor technologies for electric vehicle
drives and critically evaluate them.
2.
Select appropriate battery and motor types and give a detailed theoretical analysis of them.
Specify current, voltage and power parameters for both battery pack and motor.
3.
Research dc-dc power electronic converters for electric vehicles drives and provide a critical
evaluation of the topologies. For a suitable converter topology, design the power circuit and
the control circuit.
4.
Simulate the battery/dc-dc power electronic converter/motor drive scheme using an
appropriate simulation tool.
5.
Critically evaluate the simulated operation of the dc-dc power electronic converter in the
drive scheme. Identify areas for improvement and further work. Written Assignment
