Introduction

According to experts, students who are interested in Technical Writing should strongly consider taking some courses overseas. Tasks in technical writing that need an understanding of other cultures, such as the translation of documents or the creation of virtual teams that span the world, are becoming more common (Learning Abroad Center, n.d.). Students' sensitivity to language and cultural perception can be honed through study abroad. The purpose of this study is to have a discourse regarding the technical writing programmes available at international universities.

Method

Information for the study was gleaned from the official websites of a number of institutions, where courses in technical writing were found.

Result

Based on the data, it appears that universities provide courses to a wide variety of critically important technical writings that are specifically focussed on  following areas:

1- Writing memos,  
2- Writing emails,  
3- Proposal writing  
4- Writing formal letters for external communication 
5- Process documentation  
6- Communicating to the internet.

Discussion

It is evident that courses of technical writing is taught at a number of foreign universities. For instance, the University of Limerick offers a distance learning course Technical Writing that focuses on technical communication, a rapidly expanding field as the variety and complexity of communication channels and technologies increase (University of Limerick, 2015). The technical writing course at the University of Arizona helps students develop the skills they'll need to communicate responsibly and persuasively in today's increasingly globalised and multilingual workplace. The course is taught by members of the English department and aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively communicate in a variety of contexts and media (The University of Arizona, n.d.). Moreover, students whose future work will require them to accurately communicate technical information, benefit from National University's technical writing course (National University, n.d.). Courses like this in technical writing are crucial because they equip students for a variety of careers and  students gain experience with a wide range of document formats, for a wide range of audiences, in a wide range of situations with an emphasis on the principles of communicating through writing and images

Conclusion

Thus, it can be deduced from the study that taking a course in technical writing at a university in another country provides students with enriching cultural and educational opportunities and improves their familiarity with global contexts for technical communication.
