Question

Dr. Cairncross

Read a description of "Serena" based on information gathered by an intake worker at an

outpatient clinic. Using what you have learned about principles of developmental

psychopathology and theories of psychopathology, you will create a "case conceptualization"

outlining the risk and protective factors, that are relevant to Serena's development and the

presenting clinical concerns.

Your case conceptualization should include the following elements:

1. A description of Serena's presenting problem

2. Describe three core principles of developmental psychopathology that helped you

understand the characters development and why.

3. Identify 4 factors that are predisposing, precipitating, perpetuating, and/or protective

factors (4 total) that could affect Serena's development and the trajectory of her

presenting problem. These could be explicitly stated in the presenting notes or inferred

based on her presentation.

4. Pick one of the above factors that interests you the most. Find one peer-reviewed

scientific article that describes how this factor is related to some aspect of child

development (e.g., cognition, emotion, behaviour). Briefly describe the research articles

methods and key findings. Describe how the scientific findings relate to Serena's

development.

The written paper: The paper should be max 2 pages double spaced, 12-point Times New
