Assessment 2 Topic Background and Essay Question BACKGROUND INFORMATION Urban farming, or urban agriculture, generally refers to the practice of growing crops around or within urban areas. Rising interest in this area is related to the perceived economic, social and environmental benefits it can have at both the individual and community level. However, there are also barriers or constraints to widespread implementation of urban farming in cities. ESSAY PROMPT QUESTION Write an argumentative essay arguing for OR against urban farming. Your Task • Search the library for appropriate journal articles on the topic provided. Read the abstract of each article to see which side of the argument it supports, and whether it is appropriate for your purposes. (You may also need to read some of the article to gain a better idea of the argument). After doing the above, decide which side of the argument you prefer; you can argue either for or against the topic. After looking at a number of articles, choose two appropriate academic journal articles about the essay topic - both articles must argue either for the topic or against the topic. Do not use newspaper articles or blogs, or any other non-academic type of article. Do not use books or dissertations, as it is not possible for you to read the entire book/dissertation in order to answer the assessment questions. You must search the Curtin Library to find academic journal articles. • Complete all questions on the Assessment 2 Template - these questions are based on the above two articles you find. Read the instructions for each task carefully. Adhere to all given word counts. Please leave at least 4 lines below your answers to questions 3, 4 and 5, so that your tutor can insert their comments on the Turnitin page. Requirements • The skills you need to complete this assessment are in the topic materials. • Use full sentence and paragraph structure (unless otherwise indicated), and write in formal, third person style with APA 7th referencing. • Complete all questions to maximize the number of marks you can get. • Adhere to all given word counts. Submitting the Assessment • Submit the completed Template to the Assessment 2 submission point on Blackboard. Ensure you fill in all required sections and answer all the questions. You should submit one document only, in Word format only. Check you have uploaded the correct assessment, as you do not get a second chance.
