Question

In class assignment JUST 3030 Prof. J. Remillard You are a budding legal student and you've been studying Investigative Techniques as part of your desire to work in the legal field. You kinda want to be a cop but your parents want you to be a lawyer. So, you drink. One evening, you are out with some friends at a pub. The news on the tube is splashing stories about a serial killer that is still on the loose, terrorizing the community. Your friends start commenting how the cops don't know what they're doing. "If they did, he would've been caught by now! I mean, they have witnesses and shit" "Yeah! Cops can do whatever they want, they're just lazy, is what." "I agree. How difficult can it be with all the tools they have, Jesus! They have the bodies, the crime scenes, let's go already!" You look at your friends and try to recall how you got bunched in with these guys (Although you could draw some insight from your Crim. Theory I studies...) You know you shoulda stayed in to study instead of going out for some drinks... So, you get annoyed a little and decide its time you explain to them how the real investigative world works, the legality of things, the advancement of technology and the restrictions placed upon the police and the history of wrongful convictions, etc. You thought you better start now before everyone gets too drunk. So, you go: "Hey, guys, hold on for a sec... let me tell you something!" Assignment: In 500 to 750 words, double-spaced, no APA, no title page (unless you can't help yourself), no need to reference but you may quote if you wish (must cite if you do...), explain to your friends what you've learned so far and how even with all the technologies and knowledge, they must follow certain investigative rules and work within the law so that the wrong person doesn't get convicted. You tell 'em!! Mention as many technical, legal and research points thus far discussed in class to support your speech, examples, etc. But it must be like a fireside chat, beer-laden and somewhat dummed down for your friends. A prose, if you will, much like Plato did when speaking of love. Of course, any spelling mistakes will be overlooked due to your intoxication. Weight: 10%
