Instruction Begin by identifying some of the major challenges or issues of concern in business communication. It is especially important to consider the role that communication plays in addressing those

challenges. This will serve as a brainstorming exercise to identify and hone the topic for your upcoming position paper. Assignment: Post links to three articles that discuss current issues in business (e.g., articles from newspapers such as the Wall Street Journal or the New York Times business section; business magazines such as Forbes, Business Week, Fortune). In a short paragraph for each article, discuss how each topic might lead to a position paper In this paragraph, you will want to make sure you include a topic relevant to the workplace and its communication angle. For example, you might find an article about how Zoom is requiring employees to return to the office. You might be tempted to respond to this article with a position on the policy for in-person attendance, BUT your position must focus on communication. For example, a primary argument that working from home saves time, resources (i.e. commuting costs) and allows for individual family dynamics (for example balancing childcare obligations or elder care) does not consider communication. Instead, you might use this article as an example of a trend, and then think about how it impacts business communication. For example, you might consider taking a position about the importance of face-to-face meetings (interpersonal communication/team group communication) or you might take a position about how a particular aspect of communication can occur online (maybe you want to advocate for status meetings online, but brainstorming sessions in person.) I'm hoping this example serves to highlight how communication needs to play a central role in your position, even if the article you choose only hints at communication.
