INSTRUCTIONS Assignment Description: Need to do in 3 pages double spaced Using the sources you gathered in your Annotated Bibliography and Topic Proposal assignments, write an argumentative essay that argues in favor of ONE solution to the problem that you are researching. Note that the focus is NOT on developing a solution, but on arguing for a solution from the two of the solutions that have been proposed. Please note that you should devote at least 1 body paragraph to EXPLAINING how your solution of choice is supposed to work exactly: what are the methods, timeline, expected results. This should be done based on the information you draw from your sources. Please note that you MUST NOT invent something just based on your own ideas and logical conclusions. You are also supposed to explicitly state WHY your solution of choice is better than the alternative using the information from your sources. In the last body paragraph, you are expected to refute the alternative solution. That is – you need to explain why you don’t favor your second solution. Note that only presenting information is not enough, it must be analyzed, discussed, compared with other information, etc. Use logical arguments to show that your chosen solution is the best choice. You should cite at least 6 sources in your essay. This final Problem/ Solution essay is an opportunity to integrate the rhetorical, research, formatting, and linguistic skills that we have been working on throughout the semester. The topic of the Problem/Solution essay must follow directly from the problem that you researched in the Topic Proposal and Annotated Bibliography assignments, though your perspective on the problem/solution may shift a bit based on your research and further reading. Here is a suggested structure for your Problem/Solution essay: * Introduction (1 paragraph): o Catch the target audience’s interest and attention; o Give a concise summary of the problem, and state your thesis (your thesis is a short description of your solution); o In the introduction, try to use logic that smoothly transitions into your thesis/solution. * Body: o Problem (about 1-2 paragraphs): ▪ Give a summary of the problem. o Solution (about 2-3 paragraphs): ▪ Give an in-depth description of the solution that you think will be the best to solve the problem. o Argument (about 3-4 paragraphs): ▪ Explain and analyze the evidence for why your solution is the best Also, explain why your solution is more effective or better than alternative solutions. ▪ Conclusion (1 paragraph): Give a short summary of the main reasons you discussed about why people should agree with your solution; Include a serious, meaningful “take-home message” and end with a graceful and thoughtful idea. ▪ References (start from a new page): Give full APA citations for your sources; Remember that each source must be cited.
