IV. Atmospheric chemistry [8 pts]

Isoprene (C5H8) is a natural atmospheric component emitted by coniferous forests,and is responsible for the blue haze of the Great Smoky Mountains in the Southeastern US. It is quickly degraded in the atmosphere though reaction with OH. and O3 to form non volatile species which then form particles. These latter ones are responsible for the haze, which gives the Smokey Mountains their name.

\begin{aligned}

k_{\mathrm{OH}}=1 \times 10^{-10} \text { molecule }{ }^{-1} \mathrm{~cm}^{3} \mathrm{~s}^{-1} \\

\mathrm{O}_{3}+\text { isoprene }\left(C_{5} \mathrm{H}_{8}\right) & \rightarrow \text { product }+\mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O}

\end{aligned} k_{03}=1.45 \times 10^{-17} \text { nolecule }{ }^{-1} \operatorname{chn}^{3} s^{-1}
