Scenario, Assignment Brief and Guidance

Scenario

You are an engineer working for a company that designs and manufactures power control

systems. You have been given the task of analysing the output voltage waveforms and current

flowing through power control circuits, and to investigate some issues with cooling equipment

for the high-power equipment.

Assignment Brief and Guidance

Part 1:

Activity 2

You are investigating output current on a power supply circuit.

The output current I(t) can be described by the equation:

1 (t) = 10 sin (2760t) + 5 cos (27120t)

Where I(t) is the current and t is the time

The power output from the current versus time graph can be calculated by finding the area

under the curve. The formula for calculating the power w from current I(t) over the interval

[0,1/60] is;

W=√ 1t|I(t) gt

a) Using Simpson's rule for numerical integration calculate the total power in this signal

over the time interval 0 ≤ i ≤ 1/60 for n= 6
