An orange painted electrical heater
containing a 0.51 m long, 1.7 cm diameter
electrical heating element is being used to
warm a room. Heat is generated by the
element as a result of electrical resistance,
and the surface of the heating element is
measured to be 166 °C when in steady
operation. In this case, the value for the heat
transfer coefficient, h, was determined to be
14 W m²¹ K-¹.
Determine the rate of heat transfer from the
heating element to the surrounding fluid
(air) when the room temperature is 17 °C
Report your answer in Watts to 2 decimal
places.
