Question

N2O5 decomposes according to the following mechanism: N2O5 NO2 + .NO3; → .NO + O₂;.NO3 → NO3 + NO → 2.NO₂. In the studied temperature range, NO₂ is not reactive although it is a radical (i.e. quasi-steadystate approximation does not hold for it). What is the overall reaction? b) What are the production rates of all reactants and products under the pseudo-steady assumption? c) What is the rate of the overall reaction? What is the effect of the presence of the product on the rate of the reaction? d) Simplify the overall rate for the two limiting cases of low and high concentration of NO₂. Discuss the temperature dependence of the rate in the two cases.
