Part 3 - Do You Curve?

You have heard many a student ask their professor if they curve their course. The answer is usually no,

but you have become curious as to what might happen to the grades from a course if they were curved.

Professor Heidt decides to try using a curve for his fall semester courses. In a curved course a certain

percentage of the students would receive each letter grade (i.e. 2% of the class would get a D-, 3% of the

class would get a D, etc.) The grade percentages for Professor Heidt's class will be as follows:

• Calculate how many students from a 60 person class would receive each grade. Round your final

answers to the nearest whole student.

• Create a frequency distribution table for the number of students receiving each grade.

• Create a bar graph based on the frequency distribution table for student grades.

• Compare this curved fall course to the standard fall course. Which one do you think is better?
