internal combustion engine of automobiles work on a similar principle. The curve AB on the block

B is a parabola whose vertex is at point A. The equation of the parabola is r² = y. The block B

is pushed to the left with a constant velocity of 10 ft/s. The rod R slides on the parabola surface

so that the plate P is forced upward. Find the acceleration of the plate P.
