Question

Problem 1: A system consists of a copper tank, an electrical resistor, and liquid water. The mass of the copper tank is 13 kg, the mass of liquid water is 4 kg, and the electrical resistor has negligible mass. The system is insulated on its outer surface. Initially, the temperature of the copper is 27°C and the temperature of the water is 50°C. The electrical resistor transfers 100 kJ of energy to the system and after some time, the system comes to equilibrium.Determine the temperature once it come to the equilibrium. Take the specific heats of copper and water as 385J/kg-K and 4179 J/kg-K, respectively. Hint: Use the energy balance equation. You might need to include properties of multiple components which constitute your system. For more information, please see the example in the handout "Solution to class problem_system concept_Chapter 4", part b), uploaded in Canvas.
