Problem #2: Truss Analysis in MATLAB

Use finite element method to analyze the following planar truss structure. All truss members are

considered linear elastic, with a diameter of 30mm and equal lengths of 2m (2L = 2m). The

material is steel (E = 210 GPa). Place the origin of coordinate system at node 1with x to the right

and y to the top. For the given loading conditions develop finite element model of this structure.

a) Printout of individual stiffness matrices (4x4) for the first 4 elements

b) Printout of the overall stiffness matrix

c) Deflection of all nodes

d) Reaction forces at the supports

e) Line graph of the deformed structure (in red) on top of the original, un-deformed

structure. (Use a magnification factor of for the displacements to clearly show the

deformed structure on top of the un-deformed structure). Use a scaling factor of 500.
