Examples include repeating a careless stereotype or hastily rejecting someone's point of view. Ambivalent prejudice, on the other hand, is a social psychology hypothesis that claims that when people realise they have contradictory opinions about an outgroup (a group that is not their own), they undergo cognitive dissonance. Modern racism, known as aversive racism, differs from classic racism in that it takes place below the radar, using covert and indirect methods. Aversive racists consider themselves to be prejudice-free while harbouring unfavourable thoughts and views regarding members of minority groups. Aversive racism has had negative impacts despite its subdued manifestations, many of which are similar to those of classic, overt racism. The aversive racism paradigm regards contemporary racial sentiments as multidimensional like symbolic and modern racism, which focus on conservatives.
