Herblock was one of the most prolific and farsighted political cartoonists in modern

America. He was quick to point out (through other political cartoons (Links to an external

site.)) the scandals associated with Nixon that led to the Watergate hearings and his

eventual resignation. He invented the term McCarthyism and portrayed it as

mudslinging and a dangerous position for Republicans to maintain. And he generally

didn't shy away from criticizing politicians or world leaders, left or right.
