Report Task
You are required to undertake research on two innovative organisations in the same sector (for example, Tesla and Mercedes Benz Group) who have headquarters in different countries. You will write a 4,000 word report on the management of innovation in those organisations that must include the following sections:
1. An introduction to the two organisations and some of their main innovative end results.
2. A critically analyse of the innovation management of the two organisations. This section of the report should utilise appropriate models and frameworks related to class readings (e.g. Tidd and Bessant's 4-step innovation process model, S-Curve, Stage-Gate and Chesbrough's Open Innovation Process), highlighting any relevant contextual elements in both companies (e.g. organisation structure and strategy) that affect the process of innovation in the organisations.
3. On the basis of your analysis, establish what the respective businesses can learn from one another in terms of innovation management.
4. Identify recommendations to improve the innovation management of the two organisations based on your earlier analysis.
5. Provide a short conclusion to your innovation report assignment.
Key Points
1. Individual Work
You are to work individually.
2. Research approach
You should find the required information on the organization via secondary/desk research (i.e. relevant journal articles, books and where required company website). When needed you can use primary research to fill in any knowledge you are missing from secondary sources. You must clearly provide peer-reviewed evidence (journals, books, etc) to support the critical discussion in your report. Remember the key 'research criteria' of the assessment should be undertaken such that it reflects the breadth and depth of your reading far beyond class provided reading:
Introduction - 15%
Analysis of Innovation Management - 40%
Recommendations - 10%
References 10%
The quality of the research undertaken will also feed into the other assessment criteria:
What the two companies can learn from one another in terms of innovation management (10%)
Report Conclusions (5%)
Presentation (10%).
3.Writing the Report
Write up your work in a report format. Your report should explicitly include all the items listed in the report task above. It should be a maximum of 4,000 words in length. The word count excludes the following: references, appendices, table of content. Please include the word count on the title page. It is important to appreciate that sole reliance on website sources will deem your work below the pass criteria - F1-F6. Instead, the use of books and journals properly referenced and applied will support a P1 to P5 grade and further the ability to critique and build an effective argument using a wide set of research articles (approximately 20 to 25) will help support a D1 to D5 grade.
3.1 Report format
Front cover includes: module title and number, matriculation number, word count, report title
Layout: 1.5 spacing, font arial, font size 12, pages are numbered.
4. Referencing & Plagiarism
It is essential that you provide appropriate referencing to avoid both the impression of plagiarism or that you are fabricating work. The Referencing criteria is also linked to on Moodle. Please follow the APA referencing system. If you have any further questions related to referencing please ask your module leader, tutor or the Business school librarian. Please also read and follow the University's guidance on the use of Artificial intelligent Content Generation Tools available .
5. Turnitin
· You are required to submit the final version of your report to Turnitin, the process is as follows:
. As Turnitin may be new to you, please review the instructions on the site well in advance of the due date to ensure you understand the process. The link to Turnitin will be available on Moodle. You will be able to upload drafts and you can submit as many drafts as you like (a new draft simply overwrites the previous submission) until the due date for the final report. (Please Note: the generation of an 'Originality Report' by Turnitin can take up to 24 hours).
•
. Please ensure that your last submission to Turnitin is identical to the final copy of your work, therefore upload the final version of your work to the final submission inbox for Turnitin only when satisfied that it will not be changed.
. Please do not use Turnitin facilities in other modules, as this will show up as matched text.
If you have any questions on the use of the submission system please ask your module leader or tutor well in advance of the submission date.
