Power BI is an interactive data visualization software developed by Microsoft with primary focus on business intelligence. It is part of the Microsoft Power Platform. Power BI provides cloud-based BI (business intelligence) services, known as "Power BI Services", along with a desktop based interface, called "Power BI Desktop". Microsoft and SAP announced the general availability of Power BI connectivity to SAP BusinessObjects Bl. This joint business intelligence interoperability solution is delivered in Microsoft Excel, Power BI for Office 365, and SAP BusinessObjects Bl. While Power BI supports advanced predictive and prescriptive analytics, the introductory tutorial in your ebook will use Power BI's descriptive analytics operations such as sort, filter, group, calculate, and graph. Tasks: 1. Access Power BI. You will be accessing Power BI either through https://classapps.centennialcollege.ca (GMetrix COMPASS Office) virtual desktop or you may install a free version if you prefer. Free downloads are available online. Ensure you have the technical requirements before you install. MAC users check if this is compatible with MAC OS before installing. 2. Complete the Power BI Analytics Tutorial in course eBook. The data file you require has been uploaded to eCentennial and in classapps you will need to first open eCentennial and download the Excel file onto the classapps desktop so you can access it during the tutorial. 3. Create your first visualization as instructed on pages 352-353. (12 marks) a. Apply Clustered Bar Chart as the visualization type. (2 marks) b. Ensure you have applied sorting and filtering. Sort by Customer Name (ascending or descending order, your choice). Ensure data labels are displayed on the bars in the chart. (2 marks) C. Ensure you have filtered by Water Bottles and Repair Kits. See example below. (2 marks) d. Ensure you have applied formatting as instructed. Format the Title of the chart as "2020-2022 Revenue for Water Bottles and Repair Kits by Customer Name”. (2 marks) e. Ensure the size of the chart is enlarged by using Focus Mode. Change the colour of the bars to something you like (other than blue). Then change the colour on the longest bar to a different colour than the rest. (2 marks) f. Save this visualization as "Visualization 1 Your Name" where Your Name is your actual first and last name. (18 marks, 2 marks each screen/answer) c. Create a new visualization that queries the data for some new result you have not yet obtained. Use a chart type you have not used yet. Paste a copy of your visualization into the Word document. Ensure it has an appropriate title and give a brief explanation of what the visualization is showing. Note: You do not need to share with another student nor ask someone else for a question as the textbook suggests. This is an individual assignment so you can invent a question for yourself.
