Identify your chosen scenario.
It's the time of year when you gather with friends and family. Recent events in the news that impact different
cultures have caused differences of opinion related to issues of justice and fairness, creating conflict with
those you care about. You are hosting the next holiday celebration with your family members and friends with
diverse thoughts and opinions.
Part One: Social Justice (Complete this section in Module Two.)
1. Explain the difference between justice, fairness, and equality in the scenario.
In this context, justice refers to respecting legal norms and guaranteeing that repercussions correspond to deeds. Fairness means approaching every person
with impartiality and taking into account various points of view. In contrast, equality entails offering equal chances and assets. The tension erupts when differing
perspectives on current affairs call into question the concepts of justice, fairness, and equality, pushing society standards to their boundaries throughout the
Christmas celebration.
2.
Describe how bias can influence your perception of social justice in the scenario.
Recognising while dealing with bias remains critical to encouraging legitimate and equitable surroundings despite opposing viewpoints at a family celebration.
Bias within the situation might originate from preconceptions, cultural factors, or media representation, forming opinions concerning justice. Personal
predilections might give rise to favouring a specific viewpoint over a different nation influencing assessments of what represents social equality.
3. Describe how different narratives in society can impact your perception of social justice.
Different cultural perspectives lead to opposing views of equitable society. Media organising, cultural ideals, as well as private encounters all influence personal
concepts. Incompatible stories about current happenings can polarise perspectives, rendering it vital to thoroughly review resources while participating in open Southern

conversation in order to manage the complexity of social justice among the varied group.
4. Describe the core principles of social justice in the scenario.
The key characteristics in this situation are inclusion, discussion, and compassion. Recognising the value of varied viewpoints is critical for achieving justice, fairness,
and equality together. Respect for opposing viewpoints and a dedication to open communication develop as essential values, creating an atmosphere in which
social justice may be addressed with comprehension across close family and acquaintances.
Part Two: Intercultural Communication and Collaboration
1. Describe how you would demonstrate cultural fluency in the scenario.
In order to demonstrate cultural fluency in this scenario, I would try to eagerly engage in understanding and respecting the "diverse cultural backgrounds"
and perspectives present during "the holiday celebration". It can be possible by taking part in conversations that explore cultural differences. I can also be
open-minded to various traditions. On top of that, I can adapt my communication style to create a harmonious environment. By embracing cultural fluency, I
would be able to create an inclusive environment where everyone feels valued. This should not be different for different people according to their
background. This way an enjoyable gathering could be ensured.
2. Describe how cultural fluency benefits your self-awareness.
Cultural fluency can be extremely beneficial for self-awareness as it can promote a deeper understanding of one's own cultural biases and assumptions. It is
crucial to recognize and challenge preconceptions in order to increase sensitivity so that cultural backgrounds can shape perspectives. This awareness would
encourage self-reflection and allow people to question their own beliefs and behaviors. It will ultimately lead to a more inclusive approach when it comes to
interpersonal relationships. Cultivating cultural fluency can improve personal growth. It can also encourage more appreciation for diversity. As a result, a
more interconnected and harmonious social environment will be created.
3. Describe how an awareness of other cultures can benefit interpersonal communication with people in the scenario. (Complete this section in Module Four.)
In this holiday environment, understanding various cultures is crucial to developing successful interpersonal communication. Understanding and respecting
my family and friends' different points of view and values helps me handle possibly heated conversations with understanding and respect. Since I'm
culturally knowledgeable, I can understand how different political and social situations affect people's views, like when current events in the news have led
to arguments about justice and fairness. Which culture mostly stands for which end of the political spectrum? Knowing that some of my family friends may
not agree with me. I should understand their viewpoint as well. Because I know this, I can have a positive conversation, which helps me avoid mistakes and
make our holiday meeting a better place for everyone. Southern

4. Describe how exposure to diverse backgrounds can positively influence communication in the scenario. (Complete this section in Module Four.)
Exposure to people from different backgrounds is a key part of improving conversation my holiday setting. Having friends and family with a range of life
situations makes the talks more interesting and helps us all understand things better. Someone with a history of working for social justice might bring a new
point of view to conversations about current events, offering ideas that other people might not have thought of. Exposure like this helps people be more
open-minded and breaks down stereotypes, making it easier for people to talk about their feelings and experiences. In general, the diversity of people in the
group makes the conversation more interesting and lively.
5. Explain why an awareness of diversity is beneficial to collaboration in the scenario. (Complete this section in Module Four.)
In our holiday environment, being aware of diversity is key to collaboration. When I plan and organize the event, I make sure that everyone feels welcome
and important by considering the different cultures, tastes, and traditions of my family and friends. If we decide to have a meal together, knowing about
food needs that are based on religion or culture helps us choose a menu that works for everyone. This proactive method builds a sense of togetherness and
connection, which makes it easier for people to work together. Recognizing and using the different skills and strengths within the group also makes the
experience better overall. This way, the holiday celebration is a group effort that celebrates our differences and encourages us to work together.
Part Three: Communication Strategies to Navigate Conflict (Complete this section in Module Five.)
1. Describe the components of the conflict represented in the scenario.
The conflict in the scenario stems from debates over justice and fairness caused by differing opinions among friends and family about recent events that
influence different cultures.
2. Describe different interpersonal communication strategies that can be used in conflict resolution.
Active hearing, empathy, taking the other person's point of view, and assertive communication are all types of interpersonal communication that can help
solve problems by building mutual respect and understanding.
3. Choose an appropriate communication strategy you would employ in the scenario. Include an explanation of why you chose that communication strategy.
Active listening would be the best way for me to communicate in this situation. Active hearing means paying full attention, understanding, responding, and
remembering what is being said. This can help people understand each other and make it easier for people with various viewpoints to have a positive
conversation.
4. Describe the potential challenges of communication in the scenario.
In this situation, communication could be hard because of strong emotions, deeply held beliefs, and the risk of misunderstandings due to cultural
differences, which could make it harder to solve the conflict Southern

University
5. Describe the benefits and challenges of using restorative practices to navigate the conflict in the scenario.
Utilizing restorative practices to handle the problem can lead to benefits like promoting understanding, healing relationships, and creating peace. But there
may be challenges, such as people who don't want to change, people who can't agree on anything, and the need for sustained efforts to address issues
completely, which is time-consuming.
