1. Resource Allocation. Given the schedule below with the limit of 5 resources (R), perform the following:
a. Complete the precedence diagram and indicate the project's duration (number of workdays) without the resource limit.
b. Calculate the dates of each activity and the daily resource usage with the resource limit by completing the chart on the next page, or you may use Excel if you prefer.
c. Indicate the project's new duration (number of work days) with the resource limit.

2. Resource Leveling. Level the resources for the following schedule. Draw two manpower curves for the project: one before and one after leveling. Indicate the peak number of workers in both cases. Use the early start dates for the "before leveling" schedule. (It is suggested you use Excel to solve this problem).

Note:
a) You may use the schedule you prepared for the HW_6
b) The start date for the project is 03/04/2024.
c) The task name in bold indicates that it is a summary task.
d) You can select the column with the activities and copy it to MS Project; you can do the same for the duration and the predecessors.
e) If you copy the activities, you will have to adjust the hierarchy of the activities - they will all be left aligned, and you will need to create the summary tasks.
Microsoft Project requires you to categorize your resources into one of three types: Work, Material, or Cost.
· Work resources are associated with time. People and equipment are considered work resources as they are tracked by time. Tracking by time allows availability to be determined over allocation and cost tracking.
· Material resources are assigned by quantity instead of time.
· Cost resources are purely based on costs without time or quantity variables. E.g., building permits or the certificate of occupancy.
Once you have the activities and corresponding durations and preferences in the MS project, you can create a resource pool that lists all available resources.
For this project, consider that the following resources are available:
Equipment
Cost ($/hr)
1 Mobile Crane
$250/hr
1 dozer
$175/hr
1 excavator
$260/hr
2 haulers
$25/hr
1 forklift
$75/hr
Crew
Crew C-1 $137/hr
4 Rodman $38/hr
Crew C- 14C
$930/hr
4 carpenters
$40/hr
1 Painter, Ordinary
$35/hr
Crew Q10
$118/hr
Crew Q-15
$86/hr

· In the View tab, in the Resource Views group, select Resource Sheet.
. In the Resource sheet, Resource Name field, type the names of the resources.
· As we are adding equipment and labor, select Work for type.
. In MS Project, when you set up a resource pool, the default unit of measure for a Work resource is 100%. It means you have one of these work resources available full-time for your project. So, for example, if you have two laborers, you must enter 200%.
· In the group field for the resource, type a group name (e.g., equipment).
· Add costs to each resource (use the same value for Std. Rate and Ovt.)
· Keep the calendar as standard (8 hr/day)
Assign the resources to the tasks.
. In the Resource tab, select the task to which you want to assign a resource. Then select Assign resource.

· MS Project will create a default cash flow chart set per quarter.
. On the right, you will see the Field List. Edit the time category and change the timescale to weeks.
The orange line gives you the cumulative cost (in this case, for labor and equipment). The blue bars show your expected cost per week.

What to submit?
· Gantt Chart with task name, duration, start date, finish date, predecessors, resources, and the bar chart (please ensure the above information is readable).
. Cash Flow Chart
. A table with the resource usage cost (Go to View> Tables> Cost)
To generate the pdf for the Gant chart:
i. Go to File > Print > Page Setup > Page, set orientation to Landscape, scale the page to fit 1 page wide by one tall, and use a letter as paper size. (You may need to hide some columns and adjust their width on the Gantt Chart to ensure all necessary content can be fit into 1 page).
