Essay 1 Personal Narrative: In this essay (see Pages 80-85 in The Little Seagull Handbook), writers will discuss one personal communication challenge. For a focus, writers may use ideas from one of our reading assignment discussions. Writers will need to tackle the following: • Explain who was involved • Identify the challenge • Examine what occurred Analyze the outcome. This essay must be at least 750 words and be submitted into Assignments. Essay 2 Rhetorical Analysis of a Local Resource: This essay enables writers to check out local resources for challenges that they examined in the first essay. Writers will focus on a single challenge, evaluating a resource from a Lowcountry organization, expert, or a print publication. Writers will conduct a rhetorical analysis, analyzing the media and design of this resource, claims that are promoted, reasons and evidence that are used, types of appeals, counterarguments, and credibility. Writers must include information from this local source and one interview conducted by the writer and dialogue. This essay must be at least 750 words and be submitted into Assignments. Annotated Bibliography: This assignment allows writers to complete the research for the third essay (the Global Views Essay) before they begin writing it. The annotated bibliography is a works-cited pagethat includes a short paragraph that explains each citation (see Pages 106-110 in the Handbook). Basically, writers will construct a works-cited page--like the one on Pages 198in the Handbook--and insert a paragraph after each citation. Writers must include at least ten sources, including at least one article from a local source and at least one article from the TTC library's databases. This must be submitted into Assignments. Essay 3 Global Issues Report: Unit 3: Looking Globally at the Argument: This essay asks writers to examine how cultures and communities in other countries address the challenge that is the focus of Essay 2. Writers will first conduct research and build an annotated bibliography before they begin drafting their arguments. The writers' arguments will prove which country or resource best tackles a challenge. Writers will also reference at least five academic sources and write at least 1200 words and submit the essay into Assignments.
