We want to design a penstock for a an impulse turbine

installation, as shown in the below figure. Assume that L

and H are known quantities (you can use any relevant

quantities that you would like). Find an optimum design

for maximum power generated. Report power generated,

nozzle diameter, and jet velocity.

Using the supplied pump (pump to use.pdf) with a 12.95"

impeller, determine the flow rate in GPM. The pipe

diameter is 8 cm and the pipe is cast iron.

What is the efficiency of the pump at this operating

point? How much power must be supplied to the pump?

Using NPSH, determine restrictions on the placement of

the pump (how close to the 2nd reservoir can it be?)
