In which of the following situations do you think money will be an effective motivator? For each,

a. The economy is slow, and even though the salespeople think they are doing their best, sales are

down. Sales supervisor Rita Blount tells the sales force that anyone whose weekly sales are up by

10 percent next week will receive a $5,000 bonus.

b. A retailer such as Best Buys announces that the top performer in the store will be a prime

candidate for a management job in a store the company is opening in another state. Whoever takes

the job will receive a raise of at least a 9 percent.

c. A respiratory therapist who is the parent of two high-school-aged children can earn an extra $500

this month by accepting a schedule that involves working on weekends.
