Question

Using our FACED approach (I provided on the 2nd page) and to prepare you for your 10% graded assignment next week, please choose either A or B and respond on the Discussion board. One paragraph here is sufficient (8-10 sentences). A: Business Scenario: A Two Minute Presentation on Team Building You are meeting with your working group and your supervisor has asked each of you to take responsibility for introducing a team building exercises for the upcoming company outdoor games day. The idea is of course to get the group working together and thinking creatively. You will present your findings at the next meeting. The supervisor makes it clear that they want only a brief summary oral report taking two minutes so that everyone can be heard and the group can consider which activities to include for the whole company. It's informal, so you won't need to prepare your remarks; you will speak in an impromtu manner and describe the steps and goal of the activity. First, of course, you have to find one. It is a competitive group, so you will want to find something a little out of the ordinary. Those of you who get their activities accepted receive the honour of a judging the "Worst-Dressed" competition at the party--always a pleasure. The deadline is the next meeting in a just a couple of days. Research some team building exercises and organize your brief presentation taking the team through the steps of the activity and explaining its value. B: Business scenario: Vacation Request (Impromptu Presentation) You are a new employee and your supervisor calls a meeting. She wants to address a situation that he feels has become a problem. It seems she feels that she has been too permissive about how the team organizes their time-- whether they are working from home or at the office. Here is the problem: too many people are booking Fridays off work so they can have long weekends. In her view, clients have suffered because of the shortage of available staff. Therefore, she is announcing a new policy. Employees can only book vacations in two-week periods starting immediately. This raises a problem for you. You have booked a flight to Montreal to visit your mother for her birthday. You haven't seen her in a year. She has been calling you and looking forward to your visit. You dread the idea of calling her to say you can't come. You didn't expect this sudden change in policy and haven't booked the time. After the meeting, you sit at your desk and think about how to solve this problem. You decide to speak to your supervisor. She has an open door policy, and you can see that she is working quietly in her office. What can you say to her to convince her? How should you begin delivering your message? What approach can you take to the problem that might win her to your side? Organize your thoughts and deliver your brief impromptu presentation to your supervisor.
