In a number of ways, this subject has changed my view of the role of business in society. First of all, I had no idea that a business has to maintain good relationships with all its stakeholders. I learned that Corporate Social responsibility or CSR and creating shared value or CSV are great ways for companies to think about society (Singh & Misra, 2021). All the businesses in the world have to maintain certain responsibilities in order to operate by keeping the priorities of society in mind. Businesses cannot take any decision that is harming society. People in society look for socially responsible companies. In fact, all the stakeholders including employees and customers give more importance to the companies that are working by keeping all the social issues and factors in mind. They need to do various things against social issues. It is better for the companies to design their operation in such a way where Corporate Social responsibility or CSR and creating shared value or CSV into their businesses. For example, Amazon among many other companies has taken such an approach were creating economic value and the societal value falls on the same page (class notes). That is where the importance of proper leadership lies. The role of a good leader is to make a positive impact on the society through decision making and operations (Lawrence et al., 2010). Today's businesses do a lot of things aimed at the well-being of society. For example, gender inequality, racism, favoritism, climate change, etc. are some of the issues that they tend to address. Thus, I learned that doing business in an ethical manner and "maintaining social responsibility" have become two very important aspects of doing business in today's society.
