A company senior executive has been provided with raw data from various divisions within

the organization. She seeks guidance on how to extract valuable information from this data to

make well-informed decisions concerning company operations. She has assigned you, a

business analyst, a task to provide with her a comprehensive report with some interpretations

using a Power BI desktop.

Data are given in the following files:

XYZ_Company_Database.xlsx and XYZ_Customers.xlsx. She is very keen to get

information about customers in addition to other components such as sales, production costs,

regions, etc. She is also eager to know the year-to-date sales and production costs in terms of

calendar year as well as financial year.

Follow the tasks given below in compiling the report.

1. Using the power query editor on the Power BI desktop, clean the data and load it into

Power BI (1 mark)

2. Construct a data model in Power BI using star schema architecture (1 mark)

3. Using appropriate visualizations, create the report. The report should have data filtering

capability including slicing, drill-down, and drill-through functions. The report can be a

maximum of four pages in the Power BI report canvas. (10 marks)

4. Interpret the visuals presented in the report (this can be done in a Word document) (8

marks)
